What We Offer
Coursework in African American Studies helps students to understand the diverse and evolving experiences of African-descended peoples in the Americas, and to evaluate and apply the theoretical and cultural tools that these peoples have developed to make sense of their experiences.
Forthcoming Courses: "AFAM/PHIL 460: Black President, Black Politics (Fall 2012)"
Major and Minor
A concentration in African American Studies offers students an integrated and critical understanding of the experiences, achievements, and challenges of African-descended peoples in the Americas. This experience prepares students for careers in many different fields. Our students learn to think critically, to express themselves clearly, and to navigate diverse cultural environments successfully. Graduates of our program have gone on to work in law, policy analysis, business management, health care, higher education, and many other areas.
