Ray Block has published a new piece in the Journal of Political Science Education titled “The Classroom as Civic Sanctuary: Teaching, Learning, and the Emotional Labor of Democracy.”
The essay reflects on teaching across difference, the emotional dimensions of learning, and how classrooms can serve as spaces where students practice the civic skills democracy requires. It draws on his own teaching experiences and on the work many of us are doing around dialogue, dignity, and democratic engagement.
